Learning objectives

Botulinum toxin and Filler course:

To become familiar with the anatomy and physiology of facial ageing.

To recognise patient concerns and provide management options.

Be able to provide a clear treatment plan including benefits and limitations of treatment option

To familiarise with different types of toxins and fillers used in facial rejuvenation

To understand and implement treatment sequence to achieve the best possible outcome.

To understand the rationale for patient choice including identification of patients who are not suitable for injectables.

Familiarise with possible complications and the immediate management, as well long-term care.

Familiarise with target muscles, their action and outcome of treatment with botulinum toxin

Familiarise with blood vessels and nerves that may be involved in complications of injectables.

Understand the strategies in avoiding neurovascular bundles with filler injection and thus avoid complications.

Gain insight into immediate/early recognition of serious complications such as skin necrosis, altered vision and blindness and their effective management including tertiary referral pathways

Management of a difficult patient.

Familiarise with various types of anaesthetic options and the use of local anaesthetic blocks.

Practice building, from basics to advanced management.

Faculty

Professor Alwyn D’Souza

MBBS, FRCS(ORL-HNS), FRCS(Eng), PGCertMedEd, EBFPRS

Professor Alwyn D’Souza is a renowned international expert in Facial Reconstructive and Aesthetic Facial Plastic Surgery (face, head & neck). He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Having completed specialist training in Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, Throat / Head and Neck Surgery) he was admitted on the GMC’s specialist register.

On the professional front, Professor D’Souza is the Immediate past President of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery (EAFPS.org), past President of Facial Plastic Surgery UK (FPSUK.org) and current Editor of the Facial Plastic Surgery Journal.  He holds the fellowship of The Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh and also dual certification by the European as well as the International Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. In addition to this, he is the Editor-in-chief for the peer reviewed ‘Facial Plastic Surgery Journal’ by Thieme publishers. Professor D’Souza publishes extensively, research and review articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and has authored several textbook chapters.  Professor D’Souza publishes research and review papers in peer-reviewed medical journals and has authored several textbook chapters.

He is an invited speaker to both national and international conferences and is an examiner for postgraduate examinations both in ENT (otolaryngology) and Facial Plastic Surgery.  His fellowship programme provides super-specialist training in Facial Plastic Surgery to suitably qualified surgeons from around the world.

Professor Ash Mosahebi

MBBS, FRCS, FRCS(Plast) PhD, MBA

Plastic Surgeon

Professor Ash Mosahebi qualified at Guy’s & St Thomas Medical School in London in 1995. He later underwent plastic surgical training at some of the largest and busiest hospitals in UK.

On account of his extensive clinical experience, Professor Mosahebi is able to carry out body sculpturing and breast re-shaping, alongside procedures such as full body lifting, thigh lifts and facelifts. His patient-centred approach to clinical practice means that he discusses all options available and tailor makes the surgery for the patient.

It should come as no surprise that he was one of the first consultants to perform Vaser liposuction in UK. Additionally, he has extensive experience on facial rejuvenation both surgically and using non-surgical techniques. As one of the country’s leading plastic surgeons, he is currently involved in training other doctors in cosmetic surgery to other plastic surgeons at the Royal College of Surgeons.

Professor Ash Mosahebi is a proponent of research and pedagogy and maintains his position as the deputy editor of the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery and also the author of a number of publications. He has furthermore lectured at national conferences such as The Body Conference, to other surgeons. He regularly appears on TV, providing expert commentary and is often called upon by BAAPS as a spokesperson. He has appeared on the BBC One Show carrying out breast reconstruction procedures.

A supporter of innovation in medicine, Professor Mosahebi retains his curiosity in how new technology can improve customer care. To this extent, he is involved in pioneering research work on regenerating new tissues through new biomaterials and tissue engineering.

Dr Tatiana Mandavia

MBBS, BSC, MSC (HONS), MRCGP

Dr Tatiana is one of UK’s leading non-surgical Aesthetic experts and is the Medical Director of Drs Tatiana + Dr Rishi Advanced Aesthetics. Alongside her University of London Medical Degree, she completed a Batchelor’s degree in Aerospace Physiology and a Master’s degree in Aesthetic Medicine with Distinction. Dr Tatiana is an international Key Opinion Leader for dermal fillers as well as for laser and radiofrequency devices and has an active interest in research, having published and presented her work extensively. Dr Tatiana has a keen interest in teaching and co-leads the London Advanced Aesthetics Fellowship. She is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners and continues to practice in the NHS.
